ABOUT US

JIGYASA GIRI - KATHAK DANCER, TEACHER & CHOREOGRAPHER
A lover of the Kathak dance form, Jigyasa has trained under the tutelage of Late Guru Shri Krishna Kumar Dharwar in the Banaras Gharana. She has taught at Bangkok and Mumbai and has now been teaching in Chennai for the past seven years. She has continued her learning process and is presently learning from Guru Shrimathi Maya Rao who resides in Bangalore. She is a trustee of Satya Surabhi Trust which is devoted to the cause of primary education for the underprivileged section of society. Writing, editing and translating are newly discovered skills and she is constantly amazed by her passion for language.

PRATIBHA JAIN - WRITER AND TRANSLATOR
Pratibha holds a Doctorate in Philosophy of Language from the University of Madras. She has been a recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship awarded by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New-Delhi from 1995-98. She has taught as a guest lecturer at the Dept. of Philosophy, University of Madras from 2001-2004. Apart from her interest in Philosophy, she has written many short stories and scripted a play in Hindi. She has translated a range of literature - poems, stories, recipes, religious discourses - in the English - Hindi pair.

PRITYA’S ACTIVITIES:

Writing, editing, translation and transliteration in English and Hindi
Teaching language skills to young children through the medium of audiobooks and dance

MY SCHOOL SATYA SURABHI:
Located in Attuvampatti valley of the Palani hills, Kodaikanal, this is a school that provides quality and value-based education and nutritious noon meals to its students who are primarily the children of the farm labourers and petty vendors of Attuvampatti. Pratibha and Jigyasa visit the school regularly to conduct workshops in Spoken English, computer education and dance movements.

Project SEA:
“Speak English Aellarume” – conceived by Jigyasa and Pratibha was a charitable project that facilitated a wholesome learning process for Spoken English in the tsunami affected villages of Nagapattinam in 2004-05.
